After 15 years, this should be easy (it's not).

Reader,

Before I get into the story, just a reminder that the next business owner connection virtual event is Wednesday, November 29th, at 5:00 pm EST. It's free and only for my email subscribers (that's you, Reader!) ๐ŸŽ‰. Please reply to this email and let me know if you want to attend. A simple "I'm in!" works. We had a great time in the last one - thanks to everyone who attended!

The November 29th event focuses on overcoming obstacles and harnessing opportunities. ๐Ÿ“ˆ I'll share more about the agenda towards the end of this email.

I went to a networking event yesterday. After 15 years as an entrepreneur, you'd think I would be able to introduce myself coherently. Whenever someone asks me what I do, I struggle to put my elevator pitch into words. It usually comes out some combination of:

โ€‹
๐Ÿ”ฅ "I'm a business owner burnout strategist."

๐Ÿ’ป"I host virtual events that bring business owners together to help them get the support they need."

๐Ÿ•ฎ "I'm an author and speaker."

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ "I help business owners, mainly through a 4-week, roundtable-meets-workshop offering called FUEL Sessions."

๐Ÿงณ"I just exited my first company, and now I'm...doing a lot of things."

๐Ÿ’ก"I help business owners overcome people and process challenges."

Part of my challenge is offering several services that aren't all easily connected. Another challenge is that I have several projects going on that I need to share.

The underlying theme is that I support business owners and entrepreneurs. But after 15 years as a business owner, shouldn't I have this figured out by now?

And there's part of the issue - imposter syndrome. A bad case of the shoulds.

The reality is I've experienced massive change this year in business. It makes sense that I'm not quite sure how to talk about what I'm doing now because it's so different than what most people hear at networking events.

I need to cut myself some slack on this one element of my business.

My question to you is, where are you struggling with imposter syndrome or the shoulds, and would a little grace and empathy for yourself better serve you now?

Here is a little more about the business owner connection virtual event I'm hosting on Wednesday, November 29th, from 5:00-6:15 pm EST. โ†ฉ๏ธ Just reply to this email and let me know you'd like to attend, and I'll send you the calendar invite.

  • It's free and only for you because you're an email subscriber (thank you!).
  • It's on Zoom.

The agenda is this:

  • First 10 minutes: I'll welcome you and give you the guidelines.
  • Next 55 minutes: You'll enter a Zoom breakout room. No more than five business owners, including you, will be in each room.
    • In those rooms, you'll quickly (30 seconds) introduce yourselves.
    • Then, you'll discuss your challenges and wins, get clarity, and help others in your Zoom room.
    • I will pop into each room for a few minutes during this time.
  • Last 10 minutes: I'll bring everyone back into the main Zoom room and wrap up the session.

One hour and fifteen minutes can help you get and stay on track to achieve your goals. You'll also connect with other business owners in a CEO roundtable setting! If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks for reading, and I'll be back next week!
